About Us
North Shields Polytechnic Club (NSP) was founded in 1903 as a walking club and reconstructed 1908. NSP is an Amateur Athletics Club specialising in Track and Field, Road Running; Cross Country; Fell Running and a thriving Triathlon section for both junior and senior members. In 2018, the club became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
NSP is one of the largest Athletics clubs in the North East, with, 220 Senior Members, 107 Junior Members & 328 Family Members. We have a wide variation of ages: many juniors, a few in their eighties and everything in-between from all walks of life. Although we are large, we like to think we retain a friendly, small club atmosphere and always welcome newcomers.
The Club provides its members with the use of a 400m standard all-weather running track, all athletic equipment required for field events, a clubhouse with a state of the art gym, changing facilities, showers, toilets and kitchen facilities.
Our roots were in walking but these days our members take part in all sorts of sporting activities related to athletics. We compete in road races all year round; then in the winter we also do cross country, as well as competing in County and National Championships; and in summer, we have men's and women's track & field teams in the Athletics League. The other major focus in summer of course is triathlon and duathlon racing, with members competing at every distance.
All are welcome... ensuring the club is a huge success... along with the dedication of our many invaluable volunteers of course!!
To find out more, contact us via the Contact Form, via Twitter, Facebook or come to a club night (Tuesday & Thursday 5:30 to 8).
